Overview

  • The DGCA granted a one-time final extension until August 31, requiring IndiGo to terminate its damp lease of two Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ERs with no further renewals.
  • IndiGo has been operating the leased wide-body jets on daily direct services between Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul since early 2023 under a damp lease agreement.
  • The move follows the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’s May 15 decision to revoke security clearance for Turkish ground handling firm Celebi Airport Services on national security grounds.
  • IndiGo’s request for a six-month lease renewal was downsized by regulators to three months to ensure uninterrupted flights while avoiding long-term reliance on wet-leased aircraft.
  • CEO Pieter Elbers affirmed the carrier’s compliance with government directives and signaled plans to realign its long-haul network without Turkish-leased planes after the deadline.
