India Opens PRIP Application Portal Under Revised Rules to Spur Pharma-MedTech R&D

The ₹5,000 crore scheme targets roughly 300 drug and device projects to shift the sector toward innovation.

  • The Department of Pharmaceuticals has invited proposals under the amended Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma‑MedTech scheme.
  • For early-stage projects, MSMEs and startups can seek up to ₹5 crore on projects up to ₹9 crore, with 100% funding for the first ₹1 crore and 50% thereafter.
  • For later-stage projects, support covers 35% of costs up to ₹100 crore on projects up to ₹285 crore, rising to 50% for designated Strategic Priority Innovation areas such as rare diseases, antimicrobial resistance, vaccines, tropical vector-borne diseases, and outbreak or pandemic pathogens.
  • The revised guidelines include incentives for industry, MSMEs and startups to collaborate with nationally reputed academic and government research institutions.
  • Applications opened on October 1 via a dedicated digital portal, with registration due by November 3, application submission due by November 10, and a cap limiting any related group to 5% of the scheme’s total outlay.
