India Opens PM GatiShakti Geospatial Portal to Private Sector, Publishing 230 Datasets

The release follows a Budget pledge to share selected geospatial data with non-government users.

Overview

  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal launched PM GatiShakti Public via the Unified Geospatial Interface, granting regulated access to the portal for private entities, researchers and citizens.
  • The platform provides 230 approved layers spanning physical and social infrastructure with tools for site suitability analysis, connectivity mapping, alignment planning, compliance checks and templated reporting.
  • Access is enabled through self-registration with strong authentication and data-security protocols, with only selected non-sensitive datasets made available for use.
  • Alongside the portal, the government rolled out a PMGS NMP Dashboard, a Compendium of use cases, a Knowledge Management System, PM GatiShakti – Offshore, the Data Uploading and Management System and District Master Plans for 112 aspirational districts.
  • Developed by BISAG-N and powered by the National Geospatial Data Registry, the initiative builds on PM GatiShakti planning principles under which the Network Planning Group reports evaluating over 300 major projects.
