India Opens 28-Day Sericulture Course for 30 Overseas Trainees in Mysuru

The ITEC-backed programme prioritizes practical technology transfer for participants from developing nations.

Overview

  • The four-week course began on September 3 at CSRTI Mysuru and runs through September 30 under the Ministry of External Affairs’ ITEC initiative.
  • Thirty participants from Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, the Philippines, Tanzania, Thailand and Uganda are enrolled.
  • CSB Director (Technical) S. Manthira Moorthy inaugurated the programme, with CSRTI Director P. Deepa highlighting the institute’s sericulture R&D advances.
  • Training covers hands-on mulberry silkworm rearing, exposure to CSB–CSRTI technologies, and field visits to farmers’ fields, cocoon markets, basic seed farms, chawki centres and the Central Silk Technology Research Institute in Bengaluru.
  • Organisers describe this as CSRTI’s seventh international batch since 2013, noting 132 people from 22 countries previously trained and the institute’s role as a designated training hub for emerging sericulture nations.
