Overview

  • Wheat purchases in the 2025–26 Rabi season have surpassed 30 million tonnes as of mid-June, closing in on the government’s 33.37 million tonne goal.
  • Uttar Pradesh achieved a season-high of over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes through 5,853 procurement centres and mobile units that collected grain directly from farmers.
  • Central pool stocks stood at 37.99 million tonnes on May 31, comfortably above the 27.58 million tonne buffer requirement set for July 1.
  • The Minimum Support Price was raised by Rs 150 to Rs 2,425 per quintal, prompting payments exceeding Rs 2,500 crore to farmers in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The procurement surge is expected to secure the annual 19.5 million tonne wheat allocation under PM-GKAY and place downward pressure on market prices.
