India Marks Sardar Patel’s 150th With Nationwide Unity Day Events and Grand Parade at Statue of Unity

Amit Shah said the Unity Parade will be held annually, signalling a lasting expansion of National Unity Day.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes at the Statue of Unity and took the salute at the Ekta Nagar parade as President Droupadi Murmu led national homage in New Delhi.

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the Run for Unity in New Delhi and announced the Ministry of Home Affairs will organise the Unity Parade every year.
  • To mark the milestone, the government issued a Rs 150 commemorative coin and a special postal stamp, following Rs 1,220 crore in development projects inaugurated in Ekta Nagar on October 30.
  • Runs, marches and seminars were held across states including Gujarat, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, and members of Sardar Patel’s family attended the ceremony at Kevadia.
