Overview
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute at the Statue of Unity, took the salute at the parade, and accused past Congress governments of ignoring Sardar Patel’s vision, citing Kashmir and the abrogation of Article 370.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the Run for Unity in New Delhi, administered the Unity Pledge, and the Home Ministry announced the Unity Parade will be held every year.
- Commemorations included the unveiling of a Rs 150 coin and a special postal stamp for Patel, following the dedication of Rs 1,220 crore in development projects at Ekta Nagar on October 30.
- The Ekta Nagar program featured women-led contingents from CAPFs and state police, gallantry awardees, Surya Kiran aerobatics, state and force tableaux, and a unique Indian-breed dog unit.
- Run for Unity events and unity pledges were held nationwide with large participation, and several members of Sardar Patel’s family attended the ceremony at the Statue of Unity.
