India Lifts De-Oiled Rice Bran Export Ban, Eases Farm Trade Rules

The move signals a shift from emergency feed-supply controls toward facilitating targeted agricultural exports.

Overview

  • The Directorate General of Foreign Trade reclassified de-oiled rice bran exports from prohibited to free with immediate effect.
  • The Solvent Extractors’ Association said the change will aid processors in eastern India and help farmers secure better value for rice bran by-products.
  • Before the 2023 curb, India exported about 0.5–0.6 million tonnes of de-oiled rice bran each year worth roughly Rs 1,000 crore, largely to Asian markets.
  • A separate notification exempted a range of agricultural exports to Bhutan from existing restrictions until further orders.
  • The DGFT also allowed a one-time export of 100 tonnes of wheat seed to Indonesia and temporarily waived Export Inspection Council certificates for rice shipped to most European destinations until April 2, 2026.
