India Launches UPIUPU Integration at Dubai Postal Congress, Pledges $10 Million

The project connects India’s real-time payments rail with the global postal platform to enable cheaper, faster remittances.

  • The initiative seeks to cut fees, speed settlement and broaden access for families and migrant workers through the UPU’s network spanning 192 member countries.
  • The Department of Posts, NPCI International and the Universal Postal Union will link UPI to the UPU Interconnection Platform for cross-border transfers.
  • India committed USD 10 million to bolster postal digital capabilities with a focus on payments and e-commerce, including regional workshops and technical assistance.
  • Letters of intent were announced for cooperation with partners in Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America to prepare regional implementations.
  • India also declared its candidature for the UPU Council of Administration and the Postal Operations Council to help shape postal-payments governance.
