India Launches Three-Month Drive to Return Rs 1.84 Lakh Crore in Unclaimed Assets

The push centers on easy search tools with on-the-spot help for faster claims.

Overview

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the 'Aapki Punji, Aapka Adhikar' campaign in Gandhinagar for an October–December nationwide outreach.
  • Officials estimate roughly Rs 1.82–1.84 lakh crore remains unclaimed across bank deposits, insurance, mutual funds and equities.
  • The Department of Financial Services is coordinating with the RBI, IRDAI, SEBI and the IEPF Authority, with the RBI’s UDGAM portal supporting searches for dormant deposits.
  • The campaign stresses the three As — Awareness, Access and Action — to expand public outreach, simplify digital access and speed claim processing.
  • Authorities reported more than Rs 450 crore was returned in the past month, with banks holding assistance camps and Gujarat Gramin Bank pledging village-level visits.
