Overview
- The labour ministry launched the Shram Samvad campaign on Monday, September 28, to run for 90 days and reach industrial clusters across 316 districts in all 36 states and union territories.
- Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya framed the drive at a CII conference as part of a push for continuous reskilling in AI, automation and robotics so youth and workers can fill new technology jobs.
- The campaign will focus on explaining the four Labour Codes to employers and workers to simplify compliance, broaden protections and encourage regular social dialogue to resolve disputes.
- Mandaviya cited International Labour Organization–recognised growth in social security coverage from about 19% in 2015 to around 68% today and said the outreach aims to extend benefits to more formal and informal workers.
- Officials expect the programme to change workplace practice by prompting shared best practices between industry and labour and by linking awareness work to training schemes and future policy measures.
