Overview
- Yard 3037, named Shruti, was launched by GRSE in Kolkata on Tuesday, Aug 11, 2026, and is the second of four NGOPVs the yard is building for the Indian Navy.
- Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu said Shruti will feature about 85% indigenous content when completed, underlining the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat push for domestic defence production.
- The NGOPVs are roughly 113 metres long, displace about 3,000 tonnes, can reach up to 23 knots and have an endurance of about 8,500 nautical miles at 14 knots for long patrols.
- These ships are configured for multi‑role tasks such as maritime surveillance, protection of offshore assets, search and rescue, anti‑piracy, special operations and humanitarian assistance.
- GRSE said it is building nine warships and aims to deliver five vessels by the end of 2026–27, but its chairman warned that the yard’s naval orderbook will fall after those handovers, highlighting an industrial risk to sustaining shipbuilding capacity.
