Overview
- Registrations opened on July 11 through an online portal that will reimburse OEMs for incentives on a first-come, first-served basis for N2 and N3 category trucks.
- The scheme targets the rollout of around 5,600 electric trucks nationwide, including 1,100 reserved for Delhi under a separate ₹100 crore allocation.
- Applicants must scrap older diesel trucks and secure manufacturer warranties of five years or 5 lakh km for batteries and five years or 2.5 lakh km for motors and vehicles.
- Industry leaders such as Volvo Eicher, Tata Motors, and Ashok Leyland are registering models for the programme, with SAIL committing to procure 150 e-trucks over the next two years.
- The ₹500 crore e-truck scheme forms part of the larger ₹10,900 crore PM E-DRIVE initiative aimed at decarbonising India’s transport sector by 2070.
