India Launches PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana to Boost Agriculture in 100 Low-Productivity Districts

The Union Budget 2025-26 introduces targeted reforms to enhance farm productivity, rural livelihoods, and credit access while cutting agriculture ministry funding by 2.9%.

• The PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana aims to improve agricultural productivity in 100 districts with low yields, moderate crop intensity, and limited credit access.
• The program will integrate existing schemes and focus on modern farming methods, crop diversification, irrigation upgrades, and post-harvest storage systems.
• A six-year mission to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses and a five-year plan to boost cotton production were also announced.
• The budget raises the subsidized credit limit for farmers from ₹300,000 to ₹500,000 to support financial inclusion and investment in agriculture.
• Despite these initiatives, the agriculture ministry's budget allocation for 2025-26 was reduced by 2.9%, from ₹1.31 lakh crore to ₹1.27 lakh crore.
