India Launches 'One Nation One Subscription' to Expand Access to Research Journals
The government-approved scheme allocates ₹6,000 crore to provide 1.8 crore students, researchers, and educators with access to 13,000 international e-journals over three years.
- The Union Cabinet approved the 'One Nation One Subscription' (ONOS) scheme to provide nationwide access to scholarly journals and research articles for higher education institutions and R&D labs.
- The initiative will benefit 1.8 crore students, teachers, and researchers across more than 6,300 institutions, including those in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
- A ₹6,000 crore budget has been allocated to fund the scheme from 2025 to 2027, with access managed through a centralized digital portal by INFLIBNET, an autonomous UGC body.
- Subscribers will gain access to 13,000 e-journals from 30 major international publishers, including Cambridge University Press, Springer Nature, and Taylor & Francis.
- The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) will oversee the implementation and periodically review usage and publications by Indian authors.
