Overview
- On August 3, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh virtually flagged off special inaugural runs of the Rewa–Hadapsar Superfast and Jabalpur–Raipur Express trains.
- Regular passenger operations for the Rewa–Hadapsar route commence August 6/7 and the Jabalpur–Raipur line begin August 4/5, enhancing direct connectivity between Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
- The 508 km Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed corridor, financed 81 percent by JICA and 19 percent by Indian equity, will cut the journey to two hours and seven minutes once operational.
- As of June 30, construction has achieved 392 km of pier work, 329 km of girder casting and 308 km of girder launching on the Gujarat section, targeting completion by December 2027 and full commissioning by December 2029.
- These initiatives build on a broader rail modernization drive under the Modi administration, which has introduced Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat services and redeveloped over 1,300 stations.
