Overview

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow on May 11, 2025, as part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor.
  • The facility, built on 80 hectares of land provided by the Uttar Pradesh government, is designed to produce 80–100 BrahMos missiles and 100–150 next-generation variants annually.
  • Next-generation BrahMos missiles are lighter, with a reduced weight of 1,290 kg, an extended strike range of over 300 km, and enhanced deployability across land, sea, and air platforms.
  • The BrahMos missile was reportedly used in Operation Sindoor, a precision-strike campaign targeting terrorist infrastructure in response to a recent attack in Pahalgam.
  • The initiative aligns with India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, fostering local employment, private sector collaboration, and advanced manufacturing capabilities in defence.
