Overview
- The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched the pilot program on May 20, 2025, in Aizawl, co-led by Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
- Over 26,000 youths from the northeastern region will receive an additional ₹1,500 per month for one year, supplementing the existing stipend under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
- A total budget of ₹43.94 crore has been allocated, including ₹4 crore for outreach, capacity building, and project implementation.
- A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Skill Development Corporation and Welspun Living Limited to train 1,000 youths in the textile sector through a blended model of classroom and on-the-job training.
- The program emphasizes gender-responsive skilling, leveraging the region's high female participation, and aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s Viksit Bharat and Viksit North East vision.
