India, Israel Deepen Ties in Delhi Talks, Back Gaza Peace Plan and Zero‑Tolerance on Terror

New Delhi is pairing support for the US‑brokered Gaza plan with a wider push on counter‑terror cooperation.

Overview

  • External affairs minister S. Jaishankar met Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar in New Delhi to discuss the Gaza peace plan, counter‑terrorism, trade, infrastructure and regional connectivity.
  • Both sides called for a global zero‑tolerance approach to terrorism as Sa’ar reiterated Israel’s position that Hamas must be disarmed and Gaza demilitarised as central to President Trump’s plan.
  • The talks reviewed economic ties and connectivity initiatives such as IMEC and I2U2, building on a bilateral investment agreement signed in September and addressing mobility issues for Indian workers in Israel.
  • An MoU on training between India’s Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service and Israel’s foreign ministry was exchanged, and Sa’ar also met NSA Ajit Doval to discuss cooperation against the mutual threat of terror.
  • A day earlier, India and Bahrain used their fifth High Joint Commission meeting to condemn cross‑border terrorism, advance defence and maritime cooperation, and move toward CEPA talks, a Bilateral Investment Treaty and a DTAA framework.
