Overview
- Aeronautical Development Agency issued the EoI on June 18 to shortlist Indian-owned firms for AMCA development, prototyping, flight testing and certification with submissions due by August 16.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the competitive execution model on May 27 to grant equal opportunity for public sector and private companies to partner on the programme.
- The project carries a ₹15,000 crore prototype budget for five twin-engine jets targeted to make their maiden flight by 2029 and begin production by 2035.
- AMCA will be developed in two phases, with the Mark-1 powered by GE F414 engines and the future Mark-2 planned to use an indigenous powerplant.
- Leading aerospace firms such as Tata Advanced Systems, Larsen & Toubro, Adani Defence, the Mahindra Group and HAL are expected to compete for the prototyping contract.
