India Introduces Chakshu Portal to Fight Cyber Fraud

The government's new initiative aims to enhance citizen protection by allowing reports of suspicious phone calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages.

• The Chakshu portal, launched by the Indian government, enables citizens to report suspected cyber fraud communications.
• Part of the Sanchar Saathi initiative, Chakshu works alongside the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) for real-time intelligence sharing.
• The platform focuses on suspected frauds, not crimes already committed, and requires communications to be reported within 30 days.
• In the past nine months, efforts have prevented citizens from losing approximately ₹1000 crore and disconnected 1 crore mobile numbers linked to fraud.
• The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Telecommunications, law enforcement, banks, and financial institutions.
