Overview

• Ambassador Vinay Kwatra led the opening with Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, Sen. Maria Cantwell, and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell in attendance, alongside technology industry leaders.
• The mission is located at 1015 2nd Avenue in the former Federal Reserve Building, with the public-facing consular section on the first floor and administrative and commercial offices on the 11th floor; the property has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2013.
• Since July 2024, the consulate has processed 23,722 applications across its nine-state jurisdiction of Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska.
• The post is India’s sixth consulate in the United States, following a June 2023 announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and initial operations from a temporary Seattle office in November 2023.
• Recent outreach has included Seattle’s first India Day Parade and the Indian flag flying on the Space Needle, underscoring the mission’s cultural engagement alongside its economic and consular roles.
