- Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat and Consul General Pratik Mathur opened the new chancery on December 7, with full services set to begin on December 8.
- The mission now occupies the entire sixth floor of the Dawning Centre—about 1,436 sq m—more than double its previous space, consolidating consular, commercial, cultural and administrative functions.
- Situated in the Hongqiao–Gubei corridor near the Hongqiao transport hub, the location is intended to improve access for Indian nationals and Chinese partners across eastern China.
- Hundreds of guests, including diplomats, Shanghai officials and members of the Indian diaspora, attended an opening that featured cultural performances and an Indian coffee showcase.
- The move follows the recent resumption of direct flights between India and Shanghai and other outreach steps viewed as signs of warming engagement.
