India Inaugurates BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow

It aims to prepare India’s BrahMos missiles for overseas sales following their success in Operation Sindoor.

Overview

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace integration and testing facility in Lucknow on July 13 to bolster domestic defence manufacturing.
  • The facility will assemble and test BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, aiming to strengthen India’s self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
  • Following its precision strike in Operation Sindoor, about 14–15 countries have expressed formal interest in procuring BrahMos, paving the way for exports from the new plant.
  • The project is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment in Uttar Pradesh as part of the state’s Defence Corridor development plan.
  • The inauguration ceremony also honoured former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Chandra Bhanu Gupta with a statue unveiling and a commemorative postage stamp.
