Overview

  • The five-year measures target imports of PEDA used in herbicides, Acetonitrile for pharmaceuticals, Vitamin-A Palmitate and Insoluble Sulphur used in rubber production.
  • PEDA duties will range from $1,305.6 to $2,017.9 per tonne, while Acetonitrile and Insoluble Sulphur will face levies of up to $481 per tonne and $358 per tonne respectively.
  • A duty of up to $20.87 per kilogram will apply to Vitamin-A Palmitate under notifications from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
  • The tariffs follow a DGTR investigation conducted under WTO rules, aiming to curb undervalued imports and level the playing field for local producers.
  • The move is part of India’s strategy to narrow a $99.2 billion trade deficit with China and strengthen domestic chemical manufacturing.
