Overview
- The government extended privileges and immunities under the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities) Act, 1947 to the IBCA, its representatives, and officials.
- The notification applies specified provisions of the Act, including section 1 of Article I, Article II, section 9 of Article III, sections 18 and 20 of Article V, and sections 22 and 23 of Article VI.
- The step implements Article X of the Host Country Agreement signed on April 17 to establish the IBCA headquarters in India.
- Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the decision and said it strengthens India’s commitment to cooperation and empowers the alliance to function as a global platform.
