Overview
- On June 14, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis handed Letters of Intent to University of Aberdeen, University of York, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology and Istituto Europeo di Design for campuses on a 250-acre site near Navi Mumbai airport.
- Under NEP 2020, these institutions will have full autonomy over curriculum design, fee structures, program offerings and faculty recruitment.
- The new campuses will offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in STEM, business, design and emerging technologies.
- Universities are expected to begin admissions within 18–24 months, enabling Indian students to access world-class education at about one-fourth of the cost of studying abroad.
- State officials said discussions are ongoing with five more foreign universities to bring the total number of international institutions in the EduCity to ten.
