Overview
- Vodafone Idea disclosed that the Department of Telecommunications has frozen its AGR liabilities as of December 31, 2025, covering principal, interest, penalties and interest on penalties for FY2006‑07 to FY2018‑19.
- The plan caps annual payments at up to Rs 124 crore from March 2026 to March 2031, then Rs 100 crore annually from March 2032 to March 2035, with the remaining balance repaid in equal instalments from March 2036 to March 2041.
- The DoT will set up a committee to reassess the total AGR dues, and the committee’s decision will be final, with any revised amount to be paid in equal instalments between March 2036 and March 2041.
- Shares rallied after the update, with Vodafone Idea rising as much as about 9% intraday and Indus Towers up roughly 5–6% even as the broader market was flat to lower.
- Analysts cautioned that large spectrum payments still loom, estimating Vodafone Idea may need to raise roughly Rs 30,000–40,000 crore, though the company expects about Rs 5,836 crore from Vodafone Group under a liability settlement.
