Overview

  • The Darbuk-Shyok-DBO corridor is being reinforced to class-70 standards to carry vehicles up to 70 tonnes, including tanks and missile transporters.
  • Border Roads Organisation teams have completed heavy-equipment trials on the upgraded route’s bridges and pavement to certify its load-bearing capacity.
  • About 60–70 percent of the 130 km Sasoma-Saser La-DBO bypass has been black-topped as it moves into its final construction phase.
  • A seven-kilometre tunnel under the 17,660-foot Saser La pass is in the planning stage to guarantee all-weather access to the Daulat Beg Oldie sector.
  • The parallel infrastructure will shorten the Leh-DBO link by 79 km, cut travel time to 11–12 hours and reduce visibility to Chinese patrols.
