Overview
- The Sports Ministry announced Saturday that it has created a four-to-five member task force to assess India’s motorsports ecosystem and deliver recommendations in about three months.
- The panel will include representatives from the Ministry, the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, the Uttar Pradesh government and the owners of the Buddh International Circuit.
- Government sources set an accelerated target of staging an Indian Grand Prix by the end of 2028 while the FMSCI has publicly previously referenced a longer horizon for F1 of around 2030.
- Formula One management has expressed interest in a return but has not committed to dates, so the task force will focus on finding viable promoters, investment models and operational plans that meet F1’s long‑term requirements.
- The review will also examine economics, tourism and talent development and must resolve past obstacles such as the taxation and financial disputes that ended India’s 2011–2013 Grand Prix.
