India Formally Pitches Ahmedabad to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

The bid now moves into Commonwealth Sport’s evaluation under the Games Reset model.

Overview

  • An Indian delegation presented the proposal in London on September 23 to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee.
  • Guajarat sports minister Harsh Sanghavi and IOA president P T Usha led the team, joined by senior officials from the central and state governments and CGA India.
  • The plan positions a compact Games in Ahmedabad using international-standard venues, established transport links and ample accommodation.
  • The proposal aligns with Games Reset priorities, committing to affordability, para-sport integration, human-rights protections, gender equity and long-term legacy outcomes.
  • Backed by the governments of India and Gujarat along with CGA India, the bid cites Ahmedabad’s event-hosting record and now awaits assessment ahead of a member vote expected in Glasgow in November.
