Overview

  • India has imposed an anti-dumping duty ranging from USD 570 to USD 664 per tonne on textured tempered solar glass imports from China and Vietnam for five years.
  • The duty, effective retroactively from December 4, 2024, will remain in place until December 2029, according to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs' final notification.
  • The Directorate General of Trade Remedies found a significant surge in low-priced imports, with volumes rising from 30,000 MT in 2020–21 to nearly 780,000 MT during the investigation period.
  • Borosil Renewables Ltd, India's largest solar glass producer, filed the initial complaint and has welcomed the decision, citing its potential to bolster domestic manufacturing.
  • The duty aligns with India's broader strategy to safeguard local industries under WTO-compliant trade measures and follows similar actions against other Chinese imports.
