India Extends Airspace Ban on Pakistan-Registered Aircraft to September 23

The reciprocal closures trace to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

The ban is part of various measures taken by the government against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Overview

  • India issued a fresh NOTAM on Friday extending the prohibition on Pakistan-registered civilian and military aircraft using Indian airspace until September 23, 2025.
  • The restriction covers aircraft operated, owned, or leased by Pakistani airlines and operators, as well as military flights.
  • Pakistan days earlier extended its own NOTAM blocking Indian-operated, owned, or leased civilian and military aircraft from Pakistani airspace through the same date.
  • The closure cycle began when Pakistan barred Indian flights on April 23 following the Pahalgam attack, and India responded with a reciprocal ban on April 30.
  • Both governments first renewed the restrictions on May 23 and have continued issuing monthly extensions through recent months.
