India Elected to Lead International Institute of Administrative Sciences

Overview

  • India secured 87 of 141 votes in a June 3 ballot to defeat Austria and assume the IIAS presidency for 2025–2028.
  • This marks the first time in the institute’s 100-year history that its president was chosen by secret ballot and the first Indian to hold the post.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances Secretary V Srinivas in November 2024 after candidate hearings in New Delhi.
  • Srinivas has outlined a vision for a “Resource Rich, Publications Rich, Digitally Agile IIAS” emphasizing inclusive governance and bridging North–South policy gaps.
  • The IIAS comprises 31 member countries, 20 national sections and 15 academic research centres and collaborates closely with United Nations bodies on public administration.
