India Doubles Key Welfare Grants for Ex-Servicemen and Dependents

The higher rates will apply to applications filed from November 1 with an estimated annual outlay of ₹257 crore drawn from the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

Overview

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved a 100% increase across assistance schemes administered by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare through the Kendriya Sainik Board.
  • The Penury Grant rises from ₹4,000 to ₹8,000 per month for aged non-pensioner ex-servicemen and widows above 65 with no regular income.
  • The Education Grant increases to ₹2,000 per month per head for up to two dependent children from Class I to graduation, and it extends to widows pursuing a two-year postgraduate course.
  • The Marriage Grant is raised to ₹1,00,000 per beneficiary, applicable for up to two daughters of ex-servicemen and for widow remarriage, including marriages solemnised after the order.
  • The revised benefits take effect for applications submitted on or after November 1, 2025, with funding provided via the Raksha Mantri Ex-Servicemen Welfare Fund under the AFFDF.
