India Donates 81 School Buses to Nepal, Covering 48 Districts

The embassy cast the move as part of longstanding development cooperation to improve school transport across all seven provinces.

Overview

  • Allocations include flood-affected Ilam, Jhapa and Udayapur in Koshi Province as well as remote districts such as Humla, Mustang, Sankhuwasabha, Darchula, Baitadi and Achham.
  • The Embassy of India in Kathmandu announced the donation on X as support for Nepal’s education sector under the bilateral development partnership.
  • With this tranche, India says it has provided 381 school buses to Nepali institutions over the past three decades.
  • Officials said the buses aim to offer safe, economical transport for students, particularly in far‑flung areas.
  • The update follows severe early‑October rains in Nepal, after which Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed condolences and reaffirmed readiness to assist.
