Overview
- SSB teams apprehended 10 undertrial inmates from Nepal in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district late Tuesday, handing them to Bhittha and Surasand police stations.
- Officials said eight of the Sitamarhi detainees are Nepali nationals and two are Indian citizens, with several identified by name by local police.
- Separately, SSB personnel caught five escapees at the India–Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar and transferred them to local police after they failed to produce identification.
- Following the arrests, joint SSB–police patrols, thorough screenings and round-the-clock surveillance were intensified across Bihar’s border districts, according to Sitamarhi SP Amit Ranjan.
- The cross-border detentions followed a mass breakout from Kathmandu’s Dillibazar jail during anti-corruption protests, with reports noting Nepalese Army deployment around the facility.
