India Convenes First BRICS Women’s Working Group Preparatory Meeting
The outcomes will shape proposals for July meetings in Kochi.
Overview
- The Women and Child Development Ministry, which hosted the virtual session on Thursday, brought BRICS delegates together to launch work on a women-led development agenda.
- Officials set four focus areas: governance and leadership, financial and digital inclusion, entrepreneurship and skills, and women’s roles in climate action, food security and nutrition.
- Additional Secretary Caralyn Khongwar Deshmukh opened the meeting and outlined objectives for the discussions.
- UN Women, FICCI and several Indian ministries joined as knowledge partners to supply technical input and stakeholder views.
- Those inputs now move to Kochi for a Working Group meeting on July 6–7 and a Ministerial on July 8–9 that convert drafts into agreed outcomes.
