Overview
- Between January and July, six engine shutdowns and three Mayday calls were reported across four carriers including IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India and Alliance Air.
- One of the Mayday calls involved Air India Flight AI 171, which crashed into a building after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 241 people.
- The AAIB’s preliminary report, released on July 12, offered no findings on the AI 171 crash and the probe remains ongoing.
- The Civil Aviation Ministry said all potential causes and contributory factors are being examined, with sabotage also under consideration.
- Since 2022, 36 accidents involving scheduled and non-scheduled aircraft, trainee planes, private aircraft and helicopters have been recorded in India.
