India Confirms Bhutan and Morocco Requests for Overseas IIT Campuses

The Education Ministry says it is assessing the proposals under the NEP 2020 push to expand Indian higher education overseas.

  • Sources in the Education Ministry said requests from Bhutan and Morocco include formal and informal approaches, and no decision has been taken.
  • Two international IIT campuses are operating: IIT MadrasZanzibar began from a temporary site in November 2023 and IIT DelhiAbu Dhabi runs from a transit facility at Zayed University.
  • An agreement reported in October sets up an IIT campus in Suleja, West Africa, to be hosted by the Federal Government Academy with first undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts expected in 2026.
