India Concludes 17th "Nomadic Elephant" Drills With Mongolia Ahead of Khaan Quest

Overview

  • The two-week Nomadic Elephant exercise, held from May 31 to June 13 in Ulaanbaatar, emphasized joint planning, tactical drills and combat first aid in semi-urban and mountainous terrain.
  • Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Mongolian State Secretary of Defence Gankhuyag Devadorj presided over the closing ceremony, where Singh lauded the professionalism and dedication of Indian troops.
  • From June 14 to 28, an Indian Army contingent led by personnel from a Kumaon Regiment battalion will join Khaan Quest to further enhance peacekeeping readiness alongside global partners.
  • In line with India’s gender inclusion drive, the Khaan Quest team features one woman officer and two women soldiers among its ranks.
  • Both exercises represent a strategic deepening of defence diplomacy with Mongolia and underscore India’s commitment to regional stability and United Nations peacekeeping missions.
