Overview

  • INS Udaygiri was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1 as the second of seven Project 17A stealth frigates, enhancing blue-water combat readiness
  • Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders completed the frigate in a record 37 months from launch by using integrated block pre-outfitting
  • The ship’s stealth-optimized hull conceals a weapons suite that includes supersonic surface-to-surface missiles, medium-range surface-to-air missiles, a 76 mm gun and close-in weapon systems
  • Powered by combined diesel-or-gas propulsion and overseen by an Integrated Platform Management System, Udaygiri offers multi-mission flexibility against conventional and unconventional threats
  • Over 200 MSMEs and about 4,000 direct personnel contributed to its build, and five more frigates are scheduled for delivery through late 2026
