India Closes 2025 With Deterrence Push After Operation Sindoor, New Precision-Fire Milestones

Official assessments say May’s cross-border strikes set conditions for a ceasefire, accelerating modernization.

Overview

  • Operation Sindoor in May destroyed nine terrorist camps across the border—seven by the Army and two by the Air Force—with additional LoC launch pads hit by ground-based fires.
  • Pakistan’s attempted drone strikes on 7–10 May were intercepted by Army air defence units, which reported no damage or casualties.
  • India says Pakistan’s DGMO sought a ceasefire on 10 May, after which an understanding to halt firing and military action was reached.
  • Long-range precision capabilities were validated with a BrahMos combat launch on 1 December and a successful Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket test on 29 December, alongside two Pinaka regiments operationalised in June.
  • The Army completed induction of six AH-64E Apaches, fielded new Bhairav Battalions and Ashni drone platoons showcased on 24 October, and reported 91% ammunition indigenisation with procurement focused on unmanned systems and precision fires.
