Overview
- The Union Cabinet approved creation of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, authorizing an SPV to act as the apex body for national transport planning.
- ITLA's mandate includes preparing a National Transport Master Plan with a planning horizon of 10 years or more to align roads, rail, ports, aviation, inland waterways, coastal shipping, urban mobility and logistics.
- The authority will build a National Transport Data Repository by integrating sources such as GSTN e-way bills, FASTag, Vahan, GPS and urban traffic systems to produce freight-flow and origin‑destination analytics for planning and monitoring.
- ITLA will technically appraise, monitor and carry out post-implementation impact assessments of central infrastructure projects costing ₹500 crore or more while financial appraisal remains with existing government mechanisms.
- Next steps are operational details including governance, staffing and data‑sharing arrangements and the move builds on earlier initiatives such as PM GatiShakti and the 2022 National Logistics Policy with new urgency after a 2025 NCAER study revised logistics cost estimates.
