Overview
- The Indian Army Engineer Task Force completed a 120-foot Bailey bridge at KM 15 on the B-492 Highway in Sri Lanka’s Central Province.
- The new crossing reconnects the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts after more than a month of disruption following Cyclone Ditwah.
- It follows earlier launches of Bailey bridges in the Jaffna and Kandy regions and earlier January work restoring connectivity at KM 21 on the same route.
- The bridging effort is part of Operation Sagar Bandhu, launched in November 2025 to deliver humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, including road and bridge restoration.
- Officials say the restored links are easing access to essential services and supplies while strengthening goodwill under India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
