Overview
- Indian Army engineers completed a 120-foot Bailey bridge at KM 15 on the B-492 Highway in Sri Lanka’s Central Province.
- The new span restores a vital link between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya that had been cut off for over a month after Cyclone Ditwah.
- The project is part of Operation Sagar Bandhu, launched in November 2025 to deliver Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.
- Earlier works included restoring connectivity at KM 21 on the B-492 and launching two Bailey bridges in the Jaffna and Kandy regions.
- Reopened routes are easing delivery of essential supplies and improving access along the corridor that connects Kandy to Badulla, one of the worst-hit areas.
