India, Botswana Seal Cheetah Transfer During Murmu's Botswana Visit

  • India and Botswana formally announced the translocation of eight Kalahari cheetahs to India under Project Cheetah, with a symbolic handover at the Mokolodi quarantine facility.
  • The cheetahs will remain in quarantine and are expected to be transported to India in the coming months after required procedures and clearances.
  • The two sides exchanged a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in health and pharmaceuticals, and India agreed to send a consignment of antiretroviral medicines at Botswana’s request.
  • Delegation-level talks committed to deeper ties across trade, investment, agriculture, renewable energy, education, defence and digital technology, with the diamond sector highlighted as an area of active Indian participation.
  • Murmu’s Botswana leg follows a four-day visit to Angola where two MoUs were signed and Angola agreed to join the International Big Cat Alliance and the Global Biofuel Alliance.
