Overview

  • Around 300 INDIA bloc parliamentarians led by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge marched from Parliament to the ECI headquarters on August 11 to oppose the Special Intensive Revision of Bihar’s electoral rolls.
  • Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition MPs for attempting an unsanctioned protest and exceeding the 30-member limit allowed inside the Commission’s premises.
  • The Election Commission has again directed Rahul Gandhi to submit a signed declaration under Conduct of Election Rules within ten days or apologise for his “vote chori” allegations.
  • In a Supreme Court filing, the ECI defended the Bihar revision exercise by clarifying that omissions from draft rolls do not amount to removals and that parties received booth-level lists to correct errors.
  • India bloc leaders have called for machine-readable voter lists to enable public audits and are pressing legal deadlines for affidavits as assembly elections loom.
