INDIA Bloc Deadlocks on Bihar Seat Sharing, Postpones Candidate Decisions

Overview

  • The INDIA bloc’s Coordination Committee meeting in Patna on June 12 ended without finalizing seat allocations or naming a chief ministerial candidate.
  • Tejashwi Yadav will hold one-on-one talks with each alliance partner to prevent disputes and finalize candidate lists by the next meeting.
  • All parties have agreed to use the same seat-sharing formula from the 2020 Bihar assembly election and must submit their preferred constituencies to Yadav.
  • The alliance formed subcommittees to handle manifesto drafting, media outreach, campaign strategy and legal issues at the grassroots level.
  • The INDIA bloc endorsed a Bharat Bandh called by Left parties on July 9 to spotlight Bihar’s law and order challenges and worker concerns.
