Overview
- The Ministry of Culture on July 6 launched a nationwide commemoration running through July 6, 2027 to honour Mookerjee’s contributions as scholar, statesman and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
- The inaugural ceremonies in New Delhi featured the release of a commemorative postage stamp and coin, a short documentary screening and a theatrical performance by the National School of Drama.
- Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat invoked Mookerjee’s slogan “one nation, one flag, one Constitution,” linking the tribute to milestones such as India’s Chandrayaan missions and the repeal of Article 370.
- Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal highlighted Mookerjee’s academic achievements, principled resignation from Nehru’s cabinet and role as the first vice-president of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
- State-level exhibitions organised by the Department of Posts and cultural tributes from the Central Council for Research in Drama and Theatre will roll out in every state and union territory.
